Professional Exams in Ghana: Professional Examinations comes after a period of undergoing a course. This ascertains the facts that you have to be examined after your study period. These exams are in diverse fields of study and have there various requirements and application procedures if you wish to take an active part in them.

This post will take you through some of the professional examinations taken in Ghane and its eligibility requirements and its application procedures.

1. Ghana Pharmacy Professional Qualification Exams GPPQE:

The Ghana pharmacy Professional Qualification Exams is aimed at ensuring the continuous development of knowledge and skills of pharmaceutical care providers in line with existing international standards.

This is achieved through the development, organization, and implementation of regular, effective and relevant continuing professional education and training of pharmacists, other pharmaceutical care providers and trainees, as well as, accreditation of training programs and institutions.

Requirements and Eligibility:

  1. He/She must hold a degree in Pharmacy or its equivalent that qualifies the applicant to register in the country where it was obtained.
  2. The candidate should have undergone the 12-month rotational internship program organized by the Pharmacy Council for fresh graduates without professional experience or a 3-month abridged internship for foreign-based practicing pharmacists.
  3. The satisfactory Preceptor assessment report must have been submitted to the Pharmacy Council.
  4. For the foreign practicing pharmacist, the person should have done at least 12-months post qualification practice experience.

Administrative requirements:

The candidate should have applied in the prescribed manner to write the examination and Paid the prescribed fee which shown below

Ghana fresh graduate pays a prescribed examination fee of GH₵350.00 while foreign applicants (fresh graduates) pay GH₵3,200.00. Foreign-based practicing pharmacists who apply to write the GPPQE in Ghana pay a fee of GH₵4,000.00

Schedule for Examination and the Examination:

Two examinations shall be held within the year in July and November and consist of three parts,

Part I      —          MCQs

Part II     —          Essay

Part III    —          Orals

Each examination part consists of two (2) sections: A and B

Section A          —          Pharmacy Practice (including Clinical Pharmacy)

Section B          —          Health Policies, Ethics, Laws, and Regulations (including Good Manufacturing Practices)

PART 1 (MCQs)

Section A             —          60 questions (answer all)

Section B             —          40 questions (answer all)

Total Score          —           100

PART II (Essay)

Section A          —          3 questions answer 2

Section B          —          3 questions answer 2

Each question carries 25 marks

Total                     —          100

FINAL GRADING

Part I (MCQs)                    —          50%

Part II (Essay)                    —          30%

Part III (Orals)                    —         20%

It is important to note that To qualify (pass), a candidate must obtain at least 60% of the total marks. However, candidates are required to score at least 40% in each section and the oral.


2. Principles Of Banking Law

This exam is aimed at enabling students and applicants to Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the principles of law relating to the business of banking. Apply those principles to practical situations and problems. Effectively communicate their responses to such problems to colleagues and customers;

Requirements for Enrolling

Six (6) Credits in GCE ‘O’ Level, including English Language and Mathematics or Accounting. Plus ‘A’ Levels with Passes in three (3) subjects, two (2) of which should not be below grade ‘D’.

SHSCE: Credits in three (3) core subjects, including Core Mathematics and Core English, plus three (3) Passes in the Electives (with an aggregate of not more than 24), OR three (3) passes in RSA (Stage 3).

Recognized Degrees, HND, Diplomas, DBS, ICA (GH), ACCA and other professional Qualifications.

PASS MARK OF 50% in Matured Student Route-In-Course (MRIC) organized by CIB (Gh).


3. Strategic Marketing Management

Course Code: 4.11

This course provides you with a comprehensive insight into the basic disciplines, which underline the marketing philosophy and in-depth understanding of the functional areas of marketing that are relevant for the financial services industry.

The course covers:

  • strategic planning and the strategic planning environment;
  • marketing management, with an emphasis on the marketing of services;
  • marketing planning;
  • market segmentation, targeting, and positioning;
  • marketing research and information systems;
  • consumer buyer behavior;

Requirements for Enrolling:

Six (6) Credits in GCE ‘O’ Level, including English Language and Mathematics or Accounting. Plus ‘A’ Levels with Passes in three (3) subjects, two (2) of which should not be below grade ‘D’.

This subject enables you to understand, within the wider context of financial services, the concept of risk; the development and role of the insurance industry; the various classes of insurance and types of providers; and the legislative environment. It covers the scope and purpose of insurance; insurance contracts; classes of insurance, authorization, and regulation of intermediaries.

Requirements for Enrolling

Six (6) Credits in GCE ‘O’ Level, including English Language and Mathematics or Accounting. Plus ‘A’ Levels with Passes in three (3) subjects, two (2) of which should not be below grade ‘D’.
